5 Alternate Apps for WhatsApp
Just when we thought 2021 was going to be better, WhatsApp comes out with a shady update. We have posted a detailed insight into the update and how it affects us as a user. So I will not be going into that. Be sure to check it out to know more about it. In a nutshell the new update states that it will collecting more personal information for personalized ads. There are new sections including Transactions and Payments Data as well as Location Information to provide details on precise data collection by the app. WhatsApp has also included specific information on business interactions taking place through its messaging app.
In the light of this new information many people have decided to switch to another platform for commutation. Since everything online now from working to studies and even businesses WhatsApp was an important tool and many are still looking for a suitable replacement. And if your one of them here are a few apps that could serve your purpose. Also these apps are in no particular order of any kind. With that in mind lets get into it.
Telegram

I’ve never thought about this but telegram seems to be the most suitable app to maybe succeed WhatsApp, if we every had to move from WhatsApp. With more than 200 million active users, Telegram is by far a popular alternative to WhatsApp. The app also bring features like super groups of up to 100,000 people, ability to share files of up to 1.5 GB, self-destructing messages and end-to-end encryption.
There is also the added bonus of Telegram Bots which really enhance the experience. But it lacks the group video or voice call that WhatsApp has. Although Telegram has stated that they will work on it and try to make Telegram more than just a messaging app. It’s also open sourced.
Signal

The app that was most recommended at least for me after this whole WhatsApp update situation. Signal is free messaging app which checks every box that a messaging app should. It also offers voice and video calling, so you won’t miss WhatsApp that much. Users can also choose to let messages disappear by setting a time interval for automatic deletion. And like Telegram Signal is also open sourced making it transparent for the users. Even the files that you send using Signal are protected. It’s a great app for anyone who wants to securely converse with other users.
Google Duo

Huh? Just hear me out. WhatsApp was also used for voice calls and video calls, well Google Duo provides the same. And it is well optimized for or low-bandwidth networks. End-to-end encryption is enabled by default. The Knock Knock feature shows a live preview of the caller before the recipient picks up. There is also the features of creating group of people whom you can call at once, without the hassle of adding one by one, also you can capture interesting moments from your call with a single click, Duo also rocks a collection of face filter or masks although it’s not as vast as Snapchat. So in my view the Google Duo could be an alternative for WhatsApp for voice and video calls.
Snapchat

Although Snapchat is more like a social media app, it could be more than enough for casual messaging and communication. It also has some perks like the self destructing messages, it also notifies me when someone takes a screenshot of my chats with them. Snapchat also has an array of face masks which makes this app more fun to use. Other feature like ability to create group chats, voice calls, group voice calls, gifs are also available here which makes you feel like your not missing out much from WhatsApp.
Discord

The best way I could describe Discord is that it’s the WhatsApp for gamers. There are many game concentrated servers which could provide you with contents of games that you prefer. There is also the option to video and voice call, and also group voice call which you could use during playing multiplayer games. I’ve had pretty good user experience with discord especially when Among Us blew up. Compared to WhatsApp, Discord seems miles ahead. It also could serve the purpose of a messaging app with it’s DM’s. You can use Discord’s personal messages feature to send messages, emojis, emotes (if you have Discord Nitro), GIFs, images, and even documents.
The only pain is that normal discord allows you to upload just 8MB of files, it is increased to 50MB if you paid for a Discord Nitro plan. But you can still find you’re way around it, like uploading your video to the cloud and sharing the link in discord. Google Drive, WeTransfer all helps us to do the same.
That concludes our post. Check out our other post’s and to get notified of a new post follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Also comment down your thoughts on our alternative for WhatsApp.
