Apple’s first Arm-based MacBook is here with M1 chip

Apple has announced their new generation of Mac with the new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini powered by M1.

“The introduction of three new Macs featuring Apple’s breakthrough M1 chip represents a bold change that was years in the making, and marks a truly historic day for the Mac and for Apple,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

The first member of the family of Apple Silicon processors is called the Apple M1,which features four high-power and four power-efficient and a total of 8 cores. It also comes with an integrated GPU , image signal processor, Secure Enclave, and Neural Engine. Apple claims these new generation of Mac are 3.5 faster CPU, up to 6x graphics , up to 15x faster machine learning (ML) capabilities, and battery life up to 2x longer than before. With greater generation leap from previous generation , these new Arm-based Mac is now available in all markets. The Macbook Pro and MacBook air features two Thunderbolt ports with USB 4 and Touch ID. It also comes with 720p camera and uses special image optimization for better quality.

Graphics performance also sees a boost. M1, has eight GPU cores delivering 2.6 Teraflops of throughput. Apple claims to be the most powerful and power efficient integrated GPU.

Apple claims that the battery is 10 hours longer than before and the longest battery life ever offered on a Mac. It give around 17 hours of web browsing and 20 hours of video playback

Storage configuration options are either 8GB or 16GB of RAM along with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB SSD options.


The new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini with M1 are available to order today on  Coming to prices, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will be priced starting at Rs.1,22,900 with 256GB of storage and Rs.1,42,900 for 512GB of storage. Prices are same as the previous MacBook models. Intel-based MacBook Pro 13-inch models are also still listed, with 512GB and 1TB of storage priced at Rs.1,74,900 and Rs.1,94,900 respectively. 

The MacBook Air will also be priced at the same prices as before, with a 256GB variant priced at Rs.92,900 in India ,Rs.83,610 for education and a 512GB model priced at Rs.1,17,900. But here in MacBook Air the Intel variants are not listed.

Positively the Mac mini gets a price reduction with the 256GB version now priced at Rs.64,900 and 512GB version at Rs.84,900. Intel variants are also available.

macOS Big Sur

Big Sur is the  the latest version of the Apple’s desktop operating system. Apple claims to take full advantage of cores and deliver a massive boost in performance, astonishing battery life, and even stronger security protections. All Apple software has been optimised, and vendors including Adobe are readying updates to their offerings. Logic Pro is said to allow up to 3X more instruments and effect plugins. Final Cut Pro is said to run 6X faster when rendering complex timelines. Additionally, Big Sur and M1 are optimized to unlock the power of M1, including developer technologies from Metal for graphics to Core ML for machine learning.
